I know that most freelancers will have billings per the hour. I would have a few feature requests:
- would it be possible to choose the currency we use for freelancing, if different from system default? I understand that handling multiple currencies would be a nightmare (unless you added one total per currency to avoid having to handle exchange rates… would work too).
- would it be possible to include billings at a fixed price? When I publish for journals, they basically give me so much for the article. I would need to select all of the timings for that piece, and add how much they are going to pay for it. This could also be on a task basis, but god I am going to have a ton of them.
- I see there is a whole system for tracking Unbilled, Billed and Paid, but I have no idea how they work. Does not seem very intuitive to me. Maybe just add the option along with the “is billable“ drop-down?

In Beta 3 you can now choose the currency in Settings > General. Setting a fixed billing amount for a task is still planned but will be added after the beta phase. It requires more significant changes in the UI and UX.

Regarding 3.:
The billing system works like this: Tasks and Timings, by default, are ‘unbillable’. When a task is set as ‘billable’, all its Timings are either ‘unbilled’, ‘billed’, or ‘paid’. You can change each Timing’s status in Timings view via the context menu or main menu.

Flora Vern: Ah, only Timings can be marked billed/paid. But I guess I will need to add some kind of flag to Tasks as well. Especially after I add your suggested feature of "Fixed price tasks".

Niko Krämer: Oh… found it. You have to be in the Timings screen. I think the whole billing thing is a bit convoluted. Will give more feedback later

Flora Vern: That'd be great, thanks! I'm the only person working on the app... and because I work on it and see it every day, I often get used to a feature and see it as "easy to use", even though it is not and can be improved.

Niko Krämer: There is probably no single right way to do it. I think some form of tutorial in the final version would help (or just a graphic thing on the webpage). It would be nice to be able to set the entire task as billed / paid when right-clicking it in the left panel. It would also be nice is to be able to set the billed / paid status of all timings pertaining to a certain task over a certain period. Maybe through selecting one task (in the menu above), then selecting all of the days you want to bill in the dotted grid, then changing the status for all of them through a right-click option or a button in the middle/grid panel. You might even want to make it work for all of the tasks that are currently displayed (could be for a single client, therefore a single bill and payment).
